The lo-fi musical aesthetic barely needs an introduction. Lo-fi beats have taken the world by storm through degraded textures that have shown up in lo-fi hip hop, lo-fi house, and other genres. When it comes to making beats yourself, the best lo-fi plugins are the tools that help you achieve that signature character through a bit of vinyl crackle, some warm saturation, and a touch of wonky pitch drift. If you are chasing an “imperfect” nostalgic sound, you are in the right place. Native Instruments, iZotope, and Plugin Alliance offer a range of high-quality lo-fi plugins that cover every stage of the production process. This guide breaks down the best lo-fi plugins for every budget, including free effects you can download right now...

The crew then speaks on DJ friendships, leaving retail to focus on parties, and changing economics (10:10). Julz revisits the roots of @HickiesAndDryhumps, why the party originally felt like a house party, and how moments like @milesmedina and @JustBlaze pulling up after the Goldie Awards shaped its growth (25:07), before diving into Filipino classics and the quiet influence of Filipino DJs in nightlife (29:01). The crew then talks about San Diego’s venues...

Allen & Heath’s Xone series tend to stick around for a long time, and that proved to be the case with their previous 23 and 23C entry-level mixers. They’ve finally received an update, though, with the 24 and 24C, which feature the same kind of analogue sound, but with a more up-to-date feature set. The same applies to the K3, the new addition to the company’s beloved K series of controllers, so Mojaxx reviews both on the new episode of Beatsource Tech. Check out Mojaxx’s world review of the Xone:24C and Xone:K3 from Allen & Heath on DJcity TV. Join DJcity for only $10. The post In the XONE! Johnny Gorillas has built a sound that moves between two different creative spaces. His solo work focuses on lo-fi textures and sample-based grooves, while his project mono sky leans toward cinematic and atmospheric production. The two projects may sound separate, but they come from the same technical foundation. For Johnny, that foundation is Massive. The synth became his main tool for learning how oscillators, filters, and modulation interact. Over time, this knowledge shaped how he builds tone, rhythm, and movement across any instrument he uses. Massive gave him structure and a way to create freely without guessing. Jump to these sections: How Massive built Johnny Gorillas’ foundation Developing habits from early synthesis...
