Five years after the launch of the CDJ-3000, its successor, the CDJ-3000X has arrived. It brings with it a few changes – USB C ports, a better display, and it’s branded as an AlphaTheta, not Pioneer DJ product. But, as the name implies, it’s more of an iteration of the previous model, rather than something completely new, which could well divide opinions. Mojaxx gives it a full, in-depth review on the new episode of Beatsource Tech. Check out Mojaxx’s review of the CDJ-3000X from AlphaTheta on DJcity TV. Cornel Wilczek has built his career on exploring sound in unconventional ways. From scoring A24’s horror hit Talk To Me to his latest work on Michael Shanks’ Together, he has consistently pushed the boundaries of what a modern film score can be. Guitar Rig has been one of his core tools since 2014, serving as both a modular effects hub and a platform for experimentation. In this interview, Cornel shares how Guitar Rig became central to his workflow, why understanding effects at a technical level matters, and how he blends traditional scoring with experimental processing to create emotionally charged, sonically distinct scores. Jump to these sections: How Cornel uses Guitar Rig beyond guitars Why technical knowledge accelerates...
In some ways, recording your DJ sets has never been easier, especially if you perform with software. But if you play streaming tracks, do vinyl sets, or play on CDJs with USBs, things can be a bit more challenging. On the new episode of Beatsource Tech, Mojaxx takes a look at the Recorder + Streamer from Howler Audio, which not only works as a recorder in all those situations and more, but also serves as an audio interface for your live streaming sessions, too. Learn more about the Howler Audio Recorder + Streamer: https://howler-audio.com/ Check out Mojaxx’s review of the Recorder + Streamer from Howler Audio on DJcity TV. It’s the house sensation sweeping the world alongside Afrobeats, but what is amapiano music? The genre’s lower tempos, groovy percussion ensembles, and signature basslines make amapiano a great fit for the dancefloor and more chilled settings alike. Since its inception in South Africa a few years ago, amapiano music quickly grew into a nationwide and then global phenomenon, with artists like Kabza De Small and DJ Maphorisa pushing it into the mainstream. In this guide to the laid-back musical style, we’ll examine what amapiano means, where it comes from, and look at what instruments are used to make it. Jump to these sections: What is amapiano music? Making an amapiano track 1. Creating a drum beat 2. Composing chords 3. Making a...

Adelaide’s Avalon Kane doesn’t separate emotion from technique – instead, she uses tools that help her bypass one and surface the other. Her new single, “The Only One Who Knows Me Is Me,” launches the Dissension LP, the second half of a conceptual double album that began with 2024’s ambient and introspective Solace. Where that album was weightless and meditative, Dissension is raw and scorched, with industrial percussion, vocal manipulation, and grinding synth textures that rarely let up. Kane’s approach to songwriting on this project shifted with the tools. She turned to Playbox: an experimental instrument for Kontakt built around randomized chord generation and layered sample triggering and not to write typical melodic techno or...

With his new single “Dust” on All Day I Dream’s Spring Sampler, UK producer Jim Rider continues to refine his deep, melody-driven club sound. Known for balancing emotional tone with tight, effective arrangement, Rider brings a kind of self-editing clarity that many producers spend years trying to develop. That mindset is especially visible in his use of Native Instruments Massive, a synth known for its endless modulation options and deep control. For Rider, the challenge isn’t how much you can do in Massive – it’s knowing when to stop. His patches are built around purpose, not complexity, with most of the magic happening through timing, automation, and carefully selected movement. In this interview, Rider explains how he avoids...

The One, Rane’s first all-in-one controller for Serato DJ Pro, was a very successful product, but being a few years old, was starting to seem a little dated, as new software features came along. The One MKII was first shown off at the NAMM show, 7 months ago, which some argue was a little premature, but ever since then, DJs have been eagerly awaiting it’s release – and now it’s here. Mojaxx brings you his full review, on the new episode of Beatsource Tech. Check out Mojaxx’s review of the Rane One MKII on DJcity TV. Rob Tirea’s new EP Universal Jest is a project he warmly describes as a soundtrack to life’s absurd beauty. Pulling from indie pop, electronic songwriting, and cinematic arrangement, the EP leans heavily into emotional storytelling, and nowhere is that more apparent than in his use of synthesizers. At the center of his low-end palette is Monark, Native Instruments’ modern recreation of the Minimoog Model D. Tirea uses it for its tone as well as for its restraint. Whether he is anchoring orchestral swells or delivering punch in club-leaning mixes, Monark acts as the player who keeps the whole band glued together without needing the spotlight. In this interview, Tirea explains how he uses Monark to create contrast, carve space for...
Atlanta producer, MC, and viral sensation Sporty-O is no stranger to high-energy music. But with his new single “Blue Lights” and upcoming EP Symphonic Resistance, he’s building that momentum into something deeper by pairing his signature breakbeat-meets-UKG attitude with club-focused structure and Komplete-fueled creativity. His music is also going viral regularly on TikTok, with brands like F1 and influencers like Marshmello, Charli D’amelio, Joe Jonas and Jason Derulo using his music in viral TikToks, which have amassed over a billion plays across more than half a million videos. Using Komplete, especially Kontakt and Massive X, he’s been able to break out of repetitive loops, keep his arrangement tight, and inject his tracks with...

With the release of their remix of Sailor & I’s “Tough Love” on Siamese, and the continued momentum from their 2023 rework of “Back On 74” – a track that quickly became a mainstay in sets from Keinemusik, Bedouin, and Adriatique; Betical have carved out a sound that’s deep, emotional, and dancefloor-focused. The French duo, made up of brothers Max and Martin, blend afro house, melodic house, and minimalist techno into a signature aesthetic that feels both intuitive and surgically arranged. Their secret weapon for rhythm? Maschine MK3. Whether they’re building grooves from scratch or chasing spontaneous moments mid-session, Maschine gives them the tools to move quickly while staying locked into feel. Its tactile interface and...
